07:46 AM ET 11.26 | As you all may have heard by now, "Fireman Ed" is no more. Retired firefighter Ed Anzalone will no longer be leading the famous J-E-T-S chant at the Jets games anymore. He will attend the games, but as himself, sitting in a different section. He left the game early on Thursday night, and has decided to end his reign as chant leader. He made a good decision. Doing this is not worth being harassed, threatened, etc. He didn't deserve that. Fireman Ed did nothing to anybody, except for getting the fanbase excited. Shame on the fans that felt the need to hold him responsible for the Jets' issues. Kudos to him for looking out for himself. It's sad to see the tradition die, as it's become a staple of the Jets, but Fireman Ed is just another casualty of what has been one of the worst seasons the Jets have ever endured.

Man..... Amazing that idiot didn't ever fall from way up there....

I'll give the guy credit for being a fan - not a bandwagon fan, not a fair-weather fan, but a fan. He has stuck with this woeful franchise through thick and thin, and for that I will give him a tip of my tri-cornered hat.

No doubt he's an idiot...but that kind of loyalty is rare...or insane.

"Fireman Ed did nothing to anybody, except for getting the fanbase excited."

Apparently he was no better at his job than the Jets organization

Yeah, sorta like you I guess. You do remember all the dismal years Bostonians suffered and remained loyal. Yeah, the 1963 debacle (51-10 blowout loss in AFL Championship), then the rest of the 60's, 70's, then another debacle (46-10 SB loss) amd the rest of the 80's, 90's? Yeah you do remember those years don'tcha?

Its real nice when Bostonian kindly forget their very dreadful sports past because they won something finally in 20's. I mean the 86 yrs of losing in baseball, the four decades of losing in football, the decades of losing in Hockey. Yeah, its real nice when you pick on the dirtbag Jets, and not a word outta ya as it relates the my Giants........"I wonder why"? but I know you don't

Ed is right to quit. His societal comments are right on. Scumbag fans criticizing the only bright spot in the franchise for the last several decades? Unreal. I have been going to Boston sporting events since the mid seventies, and I never recall fans picking on like fans for supporting a player in down times. Not saying it couldn't happen in Boston, but the point is that it DID happen in NY, and this is a new low for the Jets.

S-U-C-K Mets, Jets, Nets!

Indeed! Guy is Super Man! He definitely forced Matt Light into retirement, even though Light held his own against him in the SB. Giants looking poised for another run right now, unfortunately.
