Win or lose, Boise State a lock for Las Vegas?

08:20 AM ET 11.26 | Boise State may be returning to the MAACO Bowl in Las Vegas, perhaps no matter the outcome of its game against Nevada this Saturday. MAACO can't invite Boise State until Sunday because of the BCS race. It had to hold Fresno State in case it somehow loses Boise State. But the Broncos' national ranking (No. 15 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll), name brand and history of bringing fans to Las Vegas make them the clear front-runner. ... The Broncos are so attractive to Las Vegas that their game against Nevada is considered almost inconsequential. Boise State needs to beat Nevada to earn a share of the Mountain West title with Fresno State and San Diego State. "If they lose, they're still one of our two teams," said Dan Hanneke, executive director of the MAACO Bowl.

I can think of worse places to go bowling than Vegas.

That's the way all the bowls are. Sugar invited TSUN last year only because of fan travel, not on the merits of the football team.

No...my point is that they are holding Fresno State in case Boise looses this weekend...the way I read it. So if BSU wins then Fresno State is out?

No, if Boise State wins this weekend and moves up to 16 in the BCS rankings (and if Kent State loses on Friday, and Northern Illinois does not jump Boise in the BCS rankings), then it's possible that Boise would go to the Orange Bowl. However, while all of that is possible, it's not likely to happen. Thus, Las Vegas will take Boise unless Boise goes to the Orange Bowl.

BSU would be the best choice for the Las Vegas Bowl. Bronco fans love Las Vegas and would be the best draw for a sellout. As for their competitor, I think the Arizona Wildcats would surely be the best choice. AZ has loyal, travel loving fans would enjoy Las Vegas and is very close to Tucson. The Wildcats have proven to be a very explosive, entertaining team this year with signature wins over USC and OK State and would provide the best competition agains BSU.
