08:21 AM ET 11.26 | Freshman phenom Shabazz Muhammad finally made his long-awaited Pauley Pavilion debut Sunday -- though the results were far from ideal. [As] the nation's No. 1 recruit walked off the floor past stunned onlookers and stood at the podium following UCLA's embarrassing 70-68 loss to Cal Poly, a 2-2 Big West team, the Bruins didn't just look unfinished. They looked broken. With massive potential on a roster that was ranked 11th in the nation, the Bruins watched as an 18-point lead with 12:21 remaining evaporated into thin air. ... Botched plays led to bad shots. And in the final few minutes, as Cal Poly pulled down three key offensive rebounds down the stretch, UCLA just didn't look like it was trying hard enough.

No, the mods should allow pic posting on hoops threads. THAT, is more productive.

Based on how bad last year went, with the talent he pulled in this year??? He probably has to make the Sweet Sixteen to keep his job.

Howland should have been fired a year ago, or last summer at the latest. He has lost it as a coach, if he ever had it to begin with. Can't disregard his three straight final fours, but those teams had some amazing talent on them and his teams have greatly under achieved ever since, not to mention the article about the team's problem in last year's SI.

A loss in November, no big deal. Losses (and wins) in March are those that matter.

A loss to Cal Poly is not good at any time of the year. Besides, it's not just the loss its how they lost that is a problem. Howlands calling card is supposed to be defense, fundamentals and hard work. We have not seen any of that the past two years and it looks like nothing is changing. UCLA gets all americans that do nothing once they get on campus, then they blossum once they get to the NBA.

I grew up in Wisconsin loving the old guard of UCLA basketball, and when the Bucks got the great Lew Alcindor from them, I continued to follow them through the Bill Walton years too. It's a shame to see them like this, a distant memory, and a joke of their once great past.
