08:26 AM ET 11.26 | Depending on the day, and to whom one listens, the league and the players may be closer than many believe, even as the players consider drastic measures. [The] union has begun serious internal discussions about proceeding to its last option -- a safe fail option, if you will: decertification. According to one player from Saturday night's "Operation Hat Trick" charity event, decertification "is a serious consideration right now." ... The advantages of going this route is ... well, all-around chaos, that could seemingly result in every player becoming immediate unrestricted free agents; players could sue the league for collusion, damages and back wages to honor existing contracts, etc.

Just walked by a passed-out Brian Burke on York St. with an Argo's jersey on, empty bottle of Jameson's in his hand and this article scrunched up somewhere around his face.

The article was rolled up and stuck in his arse. It just appeared to be his face at first glance.

".... players could sue the league for collusion, damages and back wages to honor existing contracts, etc."

I didn't know that bruised egos qualify as "damages."

The owners are not without recourse. They can just as easily disband the NHL and start over with a new league under new rules. I believe they call it "restructuring"?

Kinda hard to make the case that the owners colluded to break your union when you blew it up all by yourself.

...and then the signing wars would begin, and they'd find themselves right back to where they are now. Same with..."Immediate free agency."

Hey Spiny.

Hope you and yours are doing okay.

I also wanted to say "hello," as I have been gone for awhile for personal reasons, although not much has changed...in the hockey world, unfortunately.
