Surprises among (at least) seven teams eyeing Victorino

08:12 AM ET 11.27 | Options, yes, Shane Victorino will have options. At least seven teams -- the Reds, Indians, Yankees, Rangers, Giants, Rays and Red Sox -- are believed to be interested in [Victorino], one of four excellent center fielders in a strong but still developing market. Several teams are believed willing to go at least three years for Victorino, who publicly said months ago he was thinking about five years. An uncharacteristically unproductive second half probably prevents a five-year deal, but he's going to do OK, considering the number of teams interested. Victorino, who will turn 32 on Friday, is a two-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glover whose only issue really is that 2012 was by far his worst season.

I'd love to see this guy on the Red Sox.

My thinking is that if last season was his worst then that is a big issue. On another note, why is there a picture of Philip Rivers on the main page when the story is about Victorino? Seems there are a few issues on this site also.

"Several teams are believed willing to go at least three years for Victorino, who publicly said months ago he was thinking about five years." He's probably got two good years left. A team would have to eat the out years.

Victorino? "Excellent"? Hardly true anymore. In the twilight of his career. Age finds everyone. Maybe above-average years are left, but not excellent years.

Love the player hate a 5 year deal for him at this stage - historical power numbers inflated by ball park as well

I'd like to see the champs retain Pagan (as long as the price is right) instead of looking at Victorino as next yr's CF.

November 27, 2012  04:50 PM ET

wiseup: I would like the Reds to raise the bar for aquiring a leadoff hitter. If available go after Pagan. I would not want the reds to go after Victorino. I think he has seen his better days. Bourn would be better than Victorino.

November 27, 2012  05:34 PM ET

wiseup: Victorino has seen his better days. Between Philly and LA he hit .245 with 2HRs and 15 RBIs. Victorinos OBA was a lackluster .317. Not very impressive for a lead off hitter

Wiseup: I hope the RedSox sign Victorino.

I wouldn't mind seeing him on the Cardinals if the price is right. A four man outfield rotation is not a bad thing. Someone is always hurting and needing a day off late in the season, and the depth on the bench would be very nice.
