SEC bidding war for Louisville's Strong

08:18 AM ET 11.27 | With so many openings, Louisville's chances of keeping Charlie Strong grow just a bit thinner. Strong will be in demand, particularly at Arkansas, where he is likely very high on athletic director Jeff Long's list of candidates to replace John L. Smith. Tennessee may also be in play as well, so we could see a little bit of an SEC battle for Strong. He has had great success as an SEC assistant coach, and he has already taken Louisville to great heights. He maintains that he wants to stay with the Cardinals, but no one really wants to coach in an unstable Big East. Also keep an eye on Strong for the Cal opening as well because he was a finalist for the job years ago before Jeff Tedford was hired.

Arkie has a bit more available money right now than the Vols, they are still paying too many others.

I''ll e interested to see if Skip Holtz is fired at USF. I think that school is a goldmine. USF would be a good school for Strong if it opens up. Strong has already set up a recruiting base in Florida and he won't have the immediate pressure to win > 8 games in his 1st season like he would in the SEC.

Yeah, he could dominate those conferences.

USF has to compete with UF, FSU, Miami, and UCF for guys who want to say in state. Not to mention all the out of state schools that come in. IMO USF had its shot when UF and FSU were down.

USF would be a lateral move at best.

Strong has a lot of connections to Arkansas.
IF Strong went to Auburn he might get this reception at the Airport.

That's the big concern for UTk moving forward. Lots of money being paid out to ex-coaches (and an ex-AD).

It's all about he conference. I like Strong's chance at a USF in the BIG East better than the SEC. I think Miami is on its way down because of the sanctions coming its way.

LOL What is the issue with not getting Strong? He would have been the UF HC if he did not leave for Louisville or had a few more years at Louisville.

Then stay at Louisville. He will be able to recruit kids who want to leave the state of Florida. Poach kids from Ohio and Pennsylvania areas.
At Louisville, he has the opportunity to play second fiddle. The pressure to win will be less because Basketball brings in a lot of revenue. The main rival is UK. It is a perfect place for job security.
