Players are embarrassing themselves

08:24 AM ET 11.27 | On the one hand, owners are under verbal lockdown, subject to fines from the league for talking about the lockout. The members of the NHL Players' Association, meanwhile, have been free to speak their minds whenever they wish with the blessing of their leadership. And the results have been a disaster. Not only are schisms beginning to form (see Hamrlik, Roman), the players are coming across as a bunch of vindictive ingrates. ... [The] players are embarrassing themselves more with every passing day. ... When used properly, there's little doubt social media can be empowering and effective. That said, I've got to think there are a lot of people out there who would wish the players would just shut their cake holes.

Really?

I mean, really?

The owners themselves would prove themselves to be the minging tards they were if they opened their mouths, but in Hamrlik's case, this rings true to me: "Better to keep one's mouth closed and be thought of as a fool, then open said mouth and remove all doubt". Not that I have regarded him as a tower of intellect, but if the owners had their chance, I wouldn't doubt they'd come off just as lackwitted.

Your bias is mind boggling. The owners have all, (except the drug addled half-wit Dolan in NY) built business empires that allowed them to invest millions, sometimes hundreds of them to buy an NHL team. The dumbest among them (except again for "Thanks dad" Dolan) are akin to Stephen Hawking compared to the vast majority of high school drop outs known as players.

This article is spot on. The players do sound like ingrates and the owners were smart to keep a lid on it even though it has allowed the Fehrer to manipulate the P.R. spin without a retort from the league.

I don't disagree the players are coming across as spoilt little children that have had their toys taken away from them, but prove to me that the owners would be any less witless in their assertions about the current situation, and I'll show you a man that is dying from Twinkie withdrawals.

Am I biased towards the players? sure, but do I also want the game to come back? of course, and not because I want to see the owners as paupers, but I want them to stick to the deals they have made, and not prove themselves to be as lack-witted as their muteness portrays them to be. I would prefer them to speak out as well, even if it's to vent their frustrations about what they deem as wrong within the negotiations.

I didn't make the claim, the burden of proof is you.

Players are embarrassing themselves

That's OK. They're exercising their First Amendment rights. Let them speak! In the absence of hockey, it's highly entertaining.

November 27, 2012  09:44 AM ET

As for this article......its good there's players that are finally opening their mouths...entertaining at the very least.

So brilliant in fact that at least two-thirds of them are claiming their franchises are losing money.

Plenty of absurdity to go around

WOW! Pot meet kettle. I would laugh if I didn't think you were serious. Honestly?! Comparing Stephen Hawking to the owners as having the same level of intelligence...you're really not doing your point of view any justice with absurd comments like that.
Aussie, I agree with you.

Your reading comprehension skills are lacking. Go back and try it again.

Not familiar with the 2/3 part of that, but for certain there are owners who are losing money on their hockey operations.

I know that there are teams in markets/cities that seem foolish (Phoenix, Nashville, Carolina, Florida), but that is another issue altogether. The union would never allow for contraction so they are in bed with the league on that one.

I got that you were comparing it to lack of intelligence you feel the players have, that's why I quoted the entire sentence. It's still absurd. You really just give credence to Aussie's comment: "Better to keep one's mouth closed and be thought of as a fool, then open said mouth and remove all doubt". (And I realize the same can be said about me-just to save you the time from pointing it out in your reply)

You could easily start with the trust fund Dolan

Minor correction Dolan's Pop is still the owner.....he was just given the cushy job of MSG figure head but Pop still holds the reigns. Dont kid yourself.

I think most people are; but there are such things (some of which are lacking in todays culture) as integrity and ethics.

But carry on.
