03:22 PM ET 11.27 | Gary Patterson's already proved he can build a team that can beat Texas. Now what kind of a team could he build at Texas? Since TCU took down Texas in Austin on Thanksgiving, rumors have gotten louder and louder that the Horns might make a change earlier than had been expected, with Patterson the hot name to replace Mack Brown in the event of a switch.

Heh. Took long enough for a story like this to show up.

All you Texas fans speak up.
Personally, I thought Mack Brown has been below average for a long time now especially considering he has his pick of players from Texas.
Seems like he depends on his assistants to be great so he can "manage" the team. Sees himself as an "Executive".
Not sure about this . . . on the outside looking in.

MB definitely under-performing recently. But, without making it too complicated, the UTx coach has to be a CEO type. There's way too many demands and commitments that go with the job.
That's why I don't think Patterson is really interested. He's not a real public person, and that is a requirement of the job until revenues drop and the infrastructure is changed. It's worked well for the better part of 15 years, so I don't see it changing.

Guido, I agree with you. GP seems to be a hands on type coach and not as inclined to delegate as MB seems to do. Watching the game last week I thought GP was much more involved and engaged on the sidelines, which is his usual, than MB who appeared to be more of a spectator. Not knocking MB at all but I can't see GP being comfortable delegating everything to someone else to handle; he's simply a hands on type person who happens to be a perfectionist.

And, that is a better way to coach imo.
Its just when there's an entity that is generating $150-200MM, the demands change. If attendance drops, the TCU game was the lowest attendance in 2 years, maybe the priorities will change.

I think Mack sticks around, too. And to answer your question, I'd be banned from here in about 10 seconds.

Now, if they get housed by K State and embarrassed in a bowl game, the ice will start to get thin next year.

They will lose to KSU and Texas A&M. And both might get ugly although they do have a punchers chance in the KSU game.

I think he's maybe talking about a bowl game.

I believe in the racing adage "horses for courses". I don't believe Patterson if the horse for the UTx course and it would blow up. JMO and I could be totally wrong.
