49ers sign NaVorro Bowman to 5-year extension

04:11 PM ET 11.27 | The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have signed inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman to a five-year contract extension. Bowman's extension will keep the third-year pro in a 49ers uniform through the 2018 season, and means that the team has all four of its starting linebackers under contract through at least 2015. Fellow inside linebacker Patrick Willis is signed through 2016 and outside linebacker Aldon Smith -- the NFL's sack leader -- could be due an extension on his rookie contract sooner than later following the extension of Bowman's contract. Outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks signed a six-year contract in February that will keep him in San Francisco through the 2017 season.
