Morey explains why Rockets picked White

04:29 PM ET 11.27 | As the Houston Rockets and Royce White continue to engage in a dispute over White's anxiety, there are many wondering if the Rockets wasted a first-round draft pick given White's problems. In an podcast on Slate, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey explained the team's rationale for taking White with the No. 16 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. "We think Royce is an elite talent, top five talent in this last draft, which was very deep. Obviously if we're getting him at 16 in the draft, there's going to be something wrong, or something that's a gamble with the player, and really you're just choosing the gamble. Maybe they've got an injury history. Maybe they've got a particular part of their game that could be an Achilles' heel that would make them fail. Maybe they've never gone against that level of competition. So there's going to be something wrong, so you're really just picking among things that are potentially going to derail that player and which ones you're most comfortable with." Morey added that he's "hopeful" the Rockets can work through these issues with White.

You picked the wrong career

Rockets are stupid.

White is stupid. I know he didn't chose to have this disorder but seriously, you know what life in the NBA is like. You have to travel by plane, bond with your teammates, be on time for games, well rested. You can't do everything by bus, that's too hard.

This isn't going to work out. He should have realized this in advance.

Oh and this is "payback" for the Rockets for handing out those dirty contracts to Lin and Asik. :)

FYI.
Asik may well be the MIP of the year. His rebounding with the increased minutes is RIDICULOUS, and he's still 26!!!! GREAT trade.
Lin has done decently for the money. He also sells PLENTY of jersies for Rockets, he's a brand ambassador.
If you really wanna talk bad contracts, check out the Joe Johnson trade :-)
