04:48 PM ET 11.27 | The Tennessee Volunteers fired head coach Derek Dooley and the search for a replacement is immediately underway. When looking for a man to join the head coaching ranks in the Southeastern Conference, the Vols will be looking to add a big name that will drum up excitement and help with recruiting in the nation's toughest conference. A few names have begun to surface in regards to the opening and, as you would expect, it is loaded with stars from the college ranks along with a certain former NFL coach. The names that have been linked to Tennessee's head coaching search are former NFL coach Jon Gruden, Florida State Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher, former college football player and Louisville Cardinals head coach Charlie Strong, Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden and current Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville, who is very familiar with the SEC after head coaching stints at Ole Miss and Auburn. Gruden is the leading candidate for the Tennessee job and is the most commonly linked name to the opening. He was in Tennessee last week for an extended period of time, though the nature of the visit has not been cleared up in the media.

Tubs wouldn't be a splash but they could do a lot worse

Yeah. I don't see Tuberville as a long shot, if they offer more money than he is making right now. He can coach.

Gruden = Best Recruiting classes. Think like a hotshot high school recruit: Gruden is the Coolest!!! You think Saban would still be the best at putting recruits into the NFL? How about THE BEST NFL personality since Madden ...

Tubbs hasn't done as well at Tech as Leach did.
Too lazy to look up the records, but I don't even think it is close.
But, he hasn't been there that long either.

I think that the Vols are going to hire either Woody Widenhofer or John Madden.

What did Dungy get fired for, then?
As for your last sentence, no point in arguing. Some smart folks buy into it, also, though.

I think Gruden would be a good draw for recruits right away. After the first class, though, he would have to earn CFB credibility by winning.
Props on ninja-ing me on the Madden reference. I guess we Vol fans keep dwelling on former Raiders coaches, for some reason.
GO VOLS!!! Hire someone who will win football games!
