07:20 AM ET 11.28 | The recent retirement of New York Jets superfan Fireman Ed has upset Jets fans across the nation. Ed was a motivational figure and one of the only signs of life for the Jets this season. Unfortunately, he decided to hang up his fireman hat after being season-ticket holder since 1976. Fireman Ed's reasoning for quitting was the cruel environment and verbal assaults from the Jets fans. Before the season, Ed switched from his No. 42 Bruce Harper jersey to a No. 6 Mark Sanchez jersey and the fans were not too pleased. While some may be mourning the retirement of Fireman Ed, one man is taking the opportunity to call his fellow superfan a "wuss" for calling it quits. Miami Dolphins superfan Thomas Phillips aka "Big Papa Pump" took a shot at the Jets fan during an appearance on "Hochman and Zaslow" on Sports Talk: The Ticket. "If you're stepping down because of what you see, getting your butt whupped week-in and week-out and you haven't been to the Super Bowl since Super Bowl III, that is a wuss. That is a wuss," said Phillips.

Miami has a super fan also? Why?

November 29, 2012  03:33 AM ET

'Miami "super" fan shoots his mouth off with no understanding of the situation' is more like it. It's pretty clear from his comments that Fireman Ed was happy to go to the games as long as the rest of the fans appreciated him. But since they're unwilling to support their quarterback and they're taking it out on the one guy who is supporting the team no matter what, he's not willing to do it any more.

I doubt Ed will quit watching the games. I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps going to the games. He's just hanging up his hat and his jersey.

I believe if you read the last article on this he said he was going to change his seat and hang up his fire hat. So I guess he will still be at the games
