07:27 AM ET 11.28 | The college football coaching carousel is beginning to move into full motion, rumors are beginning to swirl and top coaching candidates are being linked to the top job openings around the nation. Some of the most popular job openings come from the nation's powerhouse Southeastern Conference. The Auburn Tigers were among the high-profile teams that decided on a coaching change and that will leave the Tigers searching for a new man in charge to replacement Gene Chizik. A handful of names are beginning to get linked to the Auburn opening. Auburn's list of coaching candidates is headlined by Boise State Broncos head coach Chris Petersen. Petersen is expected to be the Tigers' top target. According to al.com, TCU Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson is a "new name" that has emerged on the Auburn list of candidates. Along with Peterson and Patterson, Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, Arkansas State's Gus Malzahn, Louisville's Charlie Strong and Jimbo Fisher from Florida State are also on the list. Fisher is a very unlikely candidate and you can almost 100 percent certainly scratch him off the list of candidates after he expressed his happiness with Florida State.

No, I heard Petersen is gonna be the new coach at CAL.
And I thought Patterson was going to replace Mack at Texas.
And Jimbo says he's definitely staying at FSU...which means he'll probably be coaching Arkansas next year.

I don't think Petersen wants to leave Boise. There's an unknown factor to the Cal rumor, but Petersen's stayed put during money storms before... And the new lay of the land in 2014 gives him a shot at taking the Broncos into the 4-team playoff.

This money storm being North of $5 mill a year guaranteed for 5+ years is a MUCH bigger storm, IMHO.
I agree it's a long-shot, but saying no certianly must be getting harder for Peterson to do.

Honestly, I want to witness Arky spurned repeatedly by accomplished, sought after coaches. It'll take the sting out of Hamilton's tenure at UTK.

All kidding aside, who would be your first (logical...no Gruden BS) pick to be the next coach at UTk?

Peterson, Patterson and Gundy (in some order) will all get "unofficial" offers of $5+ mill per. When they turn do Arky, the coach will come from the next-level down group of Sarks, Franklin, Jones, Smart.

Peterson likely stays put. For now.
Boise is a great place to live and he seems to love it. Hard for some to believe, but there just might be more important things to Peterson than coaching at a bigger school.

If it was about money, Peterson would have left years ago.
