08:03 AM ET 11.28 | In 2009, Garrett Hartley broke some new ground by going public with his positive drug test results. [The] positive test was because of the Adderall. His case was basically Ground Zero in what has become an avalanche of Adderall news in the NFL. Three years later, the Adderall-related drug suspensions keep on coming. ... Adding some intrigue in the NFL is that under current league policy players can blame any positive drug test on Adderall -- even if it was for a more stigmatizing substance such as steroids -- while knowing that the league is prohibited from releasing information to the contrary. The mystery in recent months is why have there been so many players drawing drug suspensions and admitting to using Adderall.

"The mystery in recent months is why have there been so many players drawing drug suspensions and admitting to using Adderall."

Because some players think they can cheat and get away with it!

Huh?

Some teams should be forced to use performance-enhancing drugs.

If you tested every college player for Adderall at exam time, they'd all be ineligible. This isn't just an NFL problem.

What's funny is players can take the stuff with no consequences. All they have to do is get a prescription.

Just legalize EVERYTHING and let 'em play. Imagine the 400 lb linebackers running 4.3 forties.

Commonly prescribed for adhd and other things. A lot of these players have been taking it for years for those type of reasons.

Devi8ed is absolutely right. college campuses are run on it at exam time. All student types, not just athletes. Players can take it with a Doctors prescription, file the proper papers with the league offices prior to the season and get approval.

Neither do I, the only bonus is that you can focus better. It is not about physical aspects. It does increase energy levels I guess.

I kind of think they are taking real peds, and using adderall to cover it up.

November 28, 2012  09:49 AM ET

LOL!!! wait till they start testing for HGH... then you'll see where the real problem is in the NFL...

In that respect, it could actually hurt performance. If a defensive back zeroes in on one receiver, it's not going to be the right thing to do if they're in zone coverage. A pass rusher might miss the handoff on a draw and then get flagged for rouging the quarterback.

That would explain how a team practices all week and the DBs still do not know who is covering who. Corey Webster comes to mind. He must hold the record.

Yes, or maybe just pretending it was Adderall to reduce the public stigma, since the league can't say what it really was.
