D'Antoni declares the importance of Gasol

08:08 AM ET 11.28 | While some have opined that Pau Gasol makes for a square peg in Mike D'Antoni's offense, the coach went on the record to dismiss that notion Tuesday. D'Antoni disregarded any notion the team was actively looking to deal Gasol, who is set to make $19 million this season and $19.3 million next season. D'Antoni said Gasol is too valuable to trade. "First of all, when Dwight goes out, he's a great center. You cannot find a center to do what he does for 14 minutes. That is super positive," D'Antoni said. "Ideally, do you want a guy like Jesse Owens who can run? Yeah, maybe. But he's a big part of what we're going to do and it's going to take him, like everyone else, time to get up to snuff, (to learn) that change of possessions is go and that we don't meander."

Unless he gets a full training camp you can not knock his record as Lakers coach.

A Bargnani and Calderon for Gasol and Duhon trade makes too much sense.

Lakers would trade if they could find a deal worthy. There are no takers no one is actively seeking Gasol and that salary.

You hit the nail right on the head. There's only one way to win. Sharing the ball, trusting your team mates and doing everything else well. Not just scoring. The thing with Kobe is that he can not do it consistently as it takes away his personal glory and what he loves doing best which is scoring.
You look at Melo and he has the same problem so their teams go back and forth on being great and being mediocre. It's a very line to walk as leader of a team who can score.... Besides Jordan no other player has been able to win consistently at a high level while getting his team mates involved and also doing the intangibles. It's a big mental game these modern stars just can't overcome...
So bad Knicks and Lakers....
