Boston focused on signing this trio

08:14 AM ET 11.28 | Boston, with money to spend, has high hopes on hitting a triple of sorts. The Red Sox's positional plan is starting to emerge, and it includes the trio of catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli and outfielders Nick Swisher and Cody Ross. The Red Sox are in contact with all three players, and all are considered in play. The Red Sox seek a first baseman and two outfielders, and it appears this is their top triumvirate. Napoli is also talking to the Mariners and Rangers, but one rival exec said he sees the Red Sox as the favorite. Napoli has been a natural from the start, with his 1.107 career OPS at Fenway Park. Adam LaRoche is a logical second option for first base should Napoli go to the Mariners or stay with the Rangers.

Seems like an underwhelming plan to me.

Can any of them pitch?

Probably better than some on their current staff.

Seems the last time they went this route things didn't work out so great...

Ross a journeyman player, Napoli not a first baseman will kill you on defense, and Swisher who you will overpay. If this tends continues the Sox are heading for the AL East cellar.

Exactly.

They certainly haven't provided their fan base with anything to get worked up about, so far.

This news is deja vu all over again. It's garbage rehashed from other lazy sportswriters who aren't doing any of their own investigational reporting.

How the mighty have fallen. Their plan really centers around these three spare parts?

retaining the services of Cody Ross for reasonable money is a good idea in my book.Swisher blows and Napoli I could live without.

Without Arod, Cano and Tex around him, Swisher is a .230 hitter.

Oh god, I'm hoping this isn't true...do they not have any promising OF and 1B prospects who could give us some hope for the future?

Kinda depressing for the RSox fan, huh?
