Wright's megadeal hits snag

According to New York Daily News..the Mets have offered David Wright a 7 year extension at $18 million a year that's more than Zimmerman and more than Longoria.....now we'll see how loyal Wright is to the Mets and if he even wants to stay with them....

Yeah, that's a very good offer.

I think he wants a guarntee that they are going to be competive, if they talk and he doesn't like what he hears then he doesn't extend and they trade him. Hopefully to Philadelphia, I am a Philly fan and two guys I loved as players that didn't play in Philadelphia..David Wright and Chipper Jones!

I know its unlikely that they would trade him to Philly!

I didn't think you could conventional wisdom and Mets in the same sentence.

david wright could fit perfectly in the indians roster as a third basemen!!!

wiseup: I think the Mets will work out a deal. The Mets dont exactly have a potent lineup. Wright is the hammer in the lineup. Without Wright, The Mets will have little offense in lineup.

its wright greed better than his desire of been a champion before he retired?? it all depends what david wright has in mind as a top priority, its money more important to him? or a ring in his collection??

Players always want a ton of money but a guarantee that they will be competitive. Taking a lot of money makes it harder to sign all they need and will give give money back on bad year when he may have been the reason the were not comptitive.

Good for him, hopefully he will take it! Next up, RA Dickey!!!

David Wright is not worth even close to $18 mill per year, so I hope they trade him away (I am a huge Mets fan BTW). This is a case of a players popularity coming into the negotiations and overshadowing his actual production. Any team that thinks 20 HRs and 80 RBI is worth that type of contract can have him.

Braves need a third baseman.

David Wright had some very productive years when he had good players around him, something he's been lacking the last couple. So basing the decision on "20 homers and 80 rbi's" not being worth $18 mil/year for 7 just isn't logical. Wright seems like a pretty stand-up guy, and seems loyal to the organization. I think it's probably more important to him to field a quality team than to take a large sum of money just to finish in 4th place. However, it's not his job to take less money than he feels he's worth so the team can go out and fix what's broken. David doesn't own or manage the team. It's up to the Mets organization to do what it takes to get some quality players around David to become competitive. If he feels like that's being accomplished, I think he stays. If not, then he leaves. But if he leaves, then next year he's playing for his next contract and that should mean a big year for him. I love David as a player, and will follow his career wherever he goes, but as a Mets fan for 45 years I'd be very sorry to see the best third baseman the Mets have ever had not finish his career with them.
