08:20 AM ET 11.28 | There aren't many people losing more money by the minute these days than New York Rangers forward Brad Richards, who was due more than $10 million this season. Richards is "not that optimistic" federal mediation will help the NHL and its players' union resolve their differences. "If the last league quote that is on the table is their best and final offer, I don't know what a mediator's going to do," the Rangers center said Tuesday. ... He struggles to see a resolution since the owners first wanted to reduce the players' share from 57% of revenue to 43% and now have backed off to a 50-50 split, only to call that move a "concession." "That's the biggest crock I've ever heard," Richards said, adding: "We're scared for the game."

"We're scared for the game."

Who's we? Does he have a frog in his pocket?

Yep, and they're both afraid the season will "croak"

Can't blame Brad for Slats' generosity.

True. Nor his stupidity.

I hate to tell you this Mr.Richards but 50-50 was a concession by the owners. If this season dies you and your brethren will be getting less then that in future.

The longer this goes on...the slower the Cap will go up...no growth means no extra bucks to spend on what could have been a profitable NHL year this year...This thing has gone on too far...even I now believe this season is going be trashed.

Canuck, did you create a 2nd account just so you can get into 2 part zingers?

So...is this your subtle way of asking Rex to throw you a bone here? :-)

From a purely hockey perspective, nobody has more to lose than the Rangers. Half their roster is young players that were about to be re-signing to major increases within 2 years. Add that to all the highly paid players, and some pieces of the puzzle will have to be traded. For the Rangers the window is this season & next.
