And it may be the next step if mediation does not work. The fact that mediation, decertification and litigation are at the center of the NHL lockout shows clearly that the owners and the players are staring into the abyss of the loss of another season. There may be some hope that results from the mediation attempts this week in Washington, D.C. But the real reason the owners and the players are participating in the mediation is that they could not possibly have refused to participate. ... There is no quicker way to become the bad guy in a dispute than to refuse to participate in mediation.

I don't necessarily want destruction to come to the league, but at the same time I would love for this to become a cautionary tale for future negotiations between a league and its player associations.

Any decertification idea's by the players thinking that it will get them back on the ice this year is ridiculous.
Oh...I love the part too where they dissolve the NHLPA to do it...then put it back together afterwards.

I still have a Notre Dame t-shirt with weis' likeness on it. I bought it while attending a game back in Weis' first season as HC. I keep it in a plastic zip lock way up in my closet. I was going to toss it in the garbage a few years ago, but then I figured that I wanted to be able to pull it out in the future in order be able to talk about supporting the Irish during those bleak years. It seems that the future is now. Btw, this is not a joke.
