08:09 AM ET 11.29 | Soon, the waiting may be over. The Mets have made what they consider to be their best offer to David Wright, and are awaiting a response from the third baseman's camp, according to baseball officials familiar with the negotiations. ... [The] Mets are willing to guarantee eight years and approximately $140 million. On Wednesday, Mets officials continued to say only that the process was "ongoing," and Wright's agents, Seth and Sam Levinson, did not respond to a request for comment. But league officials briefed on the talks revealed new information about the structure of the Mets' offer. Those sources said that the proposed extension was backloaded with a structure similar to the contract Jose Reyes got from the Marlins last winter.

Turkey leftovers have put everyone into a coma?
That is probably a better offer than he will get from anyone else, but is Wright willing to sign on for what might be 8 years of losing? Even if the Mets farm isn't depleted, they are likely looking at anther 2 or 3 losing years.

Agree, it depends on if Wright believes the Mets are going to be serious about putting together a decent team for the future. If the management hems and haws at it, he may go somewhere else. I am a Mets fan and hope he stays but would understand if he goes somewhere else if the owners become like the Royals, Pirates, etc....and do just enough to get by everyt year.

If he plays out this season, he probably would get similar money from The Yankees, the Mets if they don't sign him will trade him but would not receive Top Prospects or a significant player in return, unless he agrees to a Sign and Trade. It's a crapshoot, if Wright doesn't sign and has an outstanding season, he wins, if he has a bad season he loses, the Mets made him a generous offer, he should take it!

its no use to sign a player WHO is 35 years old to a 8 years deal, where is the logistic point?he would be 43 years old by the time his contract is over, i mean just sign him for 5 years deal and avoid regrets in the future!!
