Braves ready to add Span, too?

08:10 AM ET 11.29 | Atlanta, after adding B.J. Upton, may not be done yet. The Braves' next move, in fact, could be as fascinating as their first -- and [Shane Victorino] is but one option. Club officials have discussed the idea of trading for Denard Span in addition to signing Upton, but talks with the Minnesota Twins failed to progress, major league sources say. Span would be a dream fit, batting leadoff and joining Upton and Jason Heyward in an all-world defensive outfield. ... The Cincinnati Reds also like Span and could start a package with right-hander Mike Leake, the likely odd man out with lefty Aroldis Chapman moving to their rotation. But the Braves can offer a greater range of starters to the pitching-hungry Twins, if the talks revive.

This makes the braves legit contenders.

They still need a lead-off hitter. Either re-sign Bourne (which isn't looking likely) or they will need to acquire one.

maybe the braves overpaid him but they could have a great deffense in the outfield, now the braves need to sign hamilton to a 3 years 60 millions deal and the braves offense should be feared by every team in both leagues!!

braves need a leadoff hitter? what about jeff phillips from cincinati?

Bourne is a better outfielder than bourne is and doesn't strike out 150 times a year. Braves offense is going to be homerun or nothing.

The Braves like to stick to their budget. They have about 10 more mill to spend. Hamilton is too expensive for them.

Plenty of money left to trade for Span or Fowler. Victorino is a possibility as well...

The only one that can kill Barnes is Barnes!

Umm, you do realized that Bourn struck out over 155 times last year right? (so with Upton you got 14 more Ks last year and more production) How about total bases? Bourn: 244...Upton: 260.

Upton's defense is good enough and he will be cheaper (and 3 years younger) than Bourn.

*Caveat

I'm a Braves fan and therefore will rationalize any move that is made.

Span traded to the Nats. Now its Fowler, Victorino or keep Prado in left and use Francisco at 3b.

November 29, 2012  05:00 PM ET

hamilton should get a two years 30 millions deal not bad for the braves right??,,,

He will be looking for at least 5 years at 20 Million.

November 29, 2012  05:26 PM ET

a trade for the OF span would help alot the braves outfield, the question is are the braves willing to trade top pitching prospects at all??

November 29, 2012  05:27 PM ET

Hamilton is gonna sign late, like Fielder.

...and with Baltimore.

Atlanta will sign Victorino...just a hunch.

i say victorino, use prado at 3b. the jury's still out on francisco, let's see if he reports to ST in better shape.

I'm kind of surprised that Span was traded straight up for a minor leaguer. It seems like the Twinkies should have been able to get more out of that deal.

You would think. I think Minnesota jumped the gun. They should have waited for the loser of the Michael Bourn sweepstakes to deal.

hamilton has nothing on his favor other than the injury rash in every year, for the same reason no team should sign him for more than 3 years at most,,,,,,
