08:20 AM ET 11.29 | Jonathan Toews, like every locked-out player, has a decision to make. [Toews] thinks about it every day -- the possibility of having to play overseas as the NHL lockout continues. And while the Blackhawks captain knows he has options, he's waiting for "something to push me over the edge in that direction." "I guess, maybe if it's at the point where the NHL has the nerve to cancel the season, then that would be the tipping point right there," Toews said after Wednesday's informal practice. "Until then, it's still an uncertainty." Several Blackhawks have been considering overseas options for some time now. Those who have remained here have cited hopes that the NHL and NHLPA will work through their differences.

So another multi-millionaire is gonna go and take the job of someone just barely making ends meat in Europe, and potentially end his career for good.

Don't it make ya proud ? Are we supposed to feel sorry for these guys when they do this ? If your gonna be a scab . just do it quietly at least.

I'll give you that, Harry, it gets tiresome hearing how these guys are missing out. Yet, when they do relocate their talents to Europe, they are basically ripping a local out of his spot.

lol...you make it sound like those athletes over-seas make as much as people working at your local Wal-Mart. Get a grip on reality, son.

Are you too daft to understand that someone is losing a job to a scab? Have you seen the unemployment numbers in Europe?

The stars make a decent living, but he isn't take a stars job, he is taking a 4th liners job.
The 4th liners in most leagues are getting paid like $35,000 (that is even a stretch). Then these guys may never get another job (or have to go to a league where they simply just pay for living expenses, and nothing else, and put some kid out of a job there) and usually they are un-educated, and end up working at places like Wal-Mart to support themselves and family too.
Then you get the fact that even those not losing their spot on the team are forced by the team to take massive paycuts, or skip paycheques, to stay on the team, so they can afford to pay the NHL players.
And it is not just Europeans getting put out of jobs, many of them Canadian kids.
Those athletes overseas aren't making much money.

- A scab is someone who strikes then takes someone elses job..the players were..if you forgot...locked out.
- I care as much about unemployment #'s in Europe as they do about Canadian unemployment #'s.

They should choose another profession then if they're that hard up.

If the NHL were concerned about their players taking someone elses job they shouldnt have locked them out in the 1st place...the players playing somewhere else just prove to Bettman and Co that the NHL isnt the only league in the world to play for.

Spoken with guys who toiled in the AHL, had a cup of joe in the bigs and then were back in the A...once they decided to make the move to Europe they never looked back...they are treated incredibly well...higher wages than in the AHL (plus a car and place to live)...shorter season and less travel.
They are able to create a life for themselves and their family and extend their careers far longer than if they had stayed in North America...

You are absolutely right. The father of a kid in my daughters class plays in Germany, exactly the reason you stated. The only thing is his family lives here. Tough life but he loves the game too much and his family supports him 100%.
