10:50 AM ET 11.29 | Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen was fined $21,000 for his hit that ended Chicago Bears offensive lineman Lance Louis' season. Louis tore his ACL when he was attempting to tackle Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield following a Jay Cutlerinterception. During the play, Louis was blindsided by Allen, who was attempting to make a block for his cornerback. Louis was placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the season. Louis started each of Chicago's first 11 games this season, but Gabe Carimi will now start in his place for the remainder of the season.

Not sure what the NFL is up to. A lower fine for a hit that ends someone's season than for Suh's kick to Schaub, which only raised his voice an octave during the post-game press conference.

I thought it was a clean hit. Maybe you'd rather they wear dresses and high heels.

I really don't understand at all. It was no different than the Boldin block during the Ray Rice miracle play, and I don't think Boldin was fined.
The punishment should not be solely based upon how bad the blocked player was injured, as seems to be the case here.

I wonder what kind of number crunching they did to come up with $21K. What? Was it slightly more flagrant than a $20K hit?

Agreed. Allen appeared to be intentionally trying to hurt the guy. He's another guy who is judged by his well earned reputation.

Lets see Carmini was benched after the 49er game. Now he got his job back because of an injury- does not sound good for the Bears. We shall see how it affects their team this week when they host the Seattle Seahawks in a playoff pivotal game.

The problem is that Suh has been fined several times for his hits, and Allen has not. Players with a history of dirty play will be given heavier fines.

Yeah, the player who could be most negatively affected by all this is probably Jay Cutler - his protection was bad enough as it was, and now it's probably going to get worse. He may not even make it to the playoffs.
