Brees has lost his magic

08:02 AM ET 11.30 | Odds that the Saints will make the playoffs shrunk Thursday night to statistically minimal as Drew Brees turned in his worst performance in a New Orleans uniform. Brees wasn't part of the reason the New Orleans Saints lost to the Falcons 23-13. He was THE reason they lost. Not only did he throw five picks for the first time in his 12-year NFL career but his landmark streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass was snapped at 54. Brees might play the rest of his career and never have another night like this. ... This loss might have sunk the Saints' season. They're now 5-7 with no margin for error the rest of the way. And their fearless leader, the man once deigned Breesus by his loyal legion of followers, suddenly looks human.

Thanks to his defense he's always playing catch up.

Every great QB has one of these games every once in a blue moon, but this one probably killed whatever momentum the Saints had left.

Yeah, forget Brees. Time to move on. What has he ever accomplished?

Oh well - at least Romo isn't the only QB to throw 5 picks in a game this year.

If Sean Payton come back next year and leads this same team deep into the playoffs, it will certainly give him a lot of field cred.

You know you would think that the coach would not make that much difference when you have still basically have the same players , and the playbook is the same.

Brees didn't drop two TD passes. Brees didn't throw an early block to get a TD taken off the board on an interference call.
Brees did hose their clock management on the two-minute drill and come away with no points at the end of the first half, though. That one was him. He still wasn't THE REASON they lost.

The game planning and play calling aren't anywhere near as good as when Payton is around to handle them.

Sure hope Romo can duplicate this feat on Dec.9 maybe even out do himself with 6.

Vitt doesn't look like the brightest bulb in the box for sure.
But Spagnoulo has a pretty decent defensive pedigree.

Spags has the pedigree, for sure. He just doesn't have the personnel for his system.
It's the offensive playcalling where they really miss Payton. They can't seem to get into the groove this year like they have in the past with him on the sideline.

LOL - cut the man immediately ! Then get out of the way as at least 10 Teams stampede to sign him up .

Brees really stunk it up last night. Fantasy owners across the nation are crying in their coffee this morning.

Well now you're talking Favre territory.

Look. This is not something new. Brees has thrown 52 ints in his last 44 games. He led the league in 2010 in turnovers. He is a gunslinger ala Favre style.

yes, brees had an 'off' night; it happens. he's still a great QB and was really carving up the falcons defense for a time there, despite the 5 INTs. agree with a post above about the playcalling from NO, they definitely miss Payton on the sldelines.
i like the falcons resolve and their ability to hang in there. but they HAVE to get that first round playoff monkey off their back this season, or they're just another team that had a great regular season.
