What will make the 5-foot-9, 178-pound Mathieu intriguing to NFL executives despite his checkered past is that he is an amazing talent. ... Per NFL Draft Scout's current rankings of draft-eligible cornerbacks, no potentially draftable cornerback is shorter than 5-foot-10, except for San Diego State's Brodrick Brown, and the 5-foot-8, 185-pound Brown is NFLDS' 25th-ranked player at the position. That's not to say that Mathieu's skill set isn't much higher than Brown's, but it does illustrate one simple fact -- NFL teams want bigger defensive backs.

I don't think he ever had a chance at being better than a 2nd or 3rd rounder before he got booted. Somebody will take a late round chance on him, but I don't see a big impact on the draft.

I don't see him getting drafted at all, yet if he does, it will be one of those supplemental 7th round choices teams get when they lose a free agent in the off season. A "free-bee" pick per se...

It's not just size working against him; it's family history, childhood environment, current associates, misplaced loyalties, and bad decisions. He might not even get drafted, but if he does, it should be by a team that can give him a structured environment (Pats or Bengals). Definitely not the Cowboys.
