08:09 AM ET 11.30 | Soon, the Idaho Stampede will become a more integral part of what Blazers general manager Neil Olshey is trying to do in Portland. [Young players] such as Victor Claver, Joel Freeland, Will Barton and Nolan Smith might be sent down to the NBA Development League for a little playing time and seasoning. [Olshey] said he intends to use Idaho this season as a tool to foster growth with his young players and he has created a tentative plan to send guys east across the Oregon border. "We're going to utilize the D-League when it's appropriate, we want to use it when we're not taking assets away from our team," Olshey said. ... But Olshey is reluctant to use the Stampede just yet. For starters, the Blazers are not a deep team.

The Blazers became the league model for how to build a team by stockpiling young talent. It was working pretty well for them too, until they were devastated by the costly losses of Oden and Roy (maybe they ARE cursed).

It seems like they, once again, are stocking up on young talent and high draft picks. Adding Lillard and Leonard to a relatively solid core is proof they're still heading in the right direction. Don't panic now; stay the course!

Nice to know that some NBA Execs are actually earning their money by trying to think outside the box.
