Jeter packing on weight?

08:17 AM ET 11.30 | Thanks to Derek Jeter's stroll in Florida, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera aren't the only members of the core four making headlines this week. The ankle we knew about. The gut, not so much. [Jeter] was spotted at a hotel on South Beach in Miami [Thursday] wearing a walking boot to protect the left ankle he broke in the playoffs last season. Yet the 38-year-old Jeter also seemed to be carrying another burden -- some extra weight hanging from the Yankees shortstop's normally fit frame. According to general manager Brian Cashman, Jeter has been in a non-weight bearing situation and will continue to be until January. That means if he has been able to work out at all, it has been limited to upper body because he can't put any weight on his left foot.

It's very difficult to burn calories at a high rate without using your legs. I have no doubt Jeter will drop any weight he picks up as soon as the ankle heals. He's always kept himself in shape before.

Swimming will do that, but with the ankle still immobilized, that's kinda hard to do.

Yeah, no doubt he will take weight off. I can speak from experience that it's not all that hard to lose 10lbs in a week working out and dieting.
