08:25 AM ET 11.30 | Did anyone believe mediation would work? The real question now is where the NHL and NHL Players' Association go from here after mediation sessions in Woodbridge, N.J., were unable to unglue entrenched positions. Well, Gary Bettman's offering to bench himself is some kind of curveball, eh? The news wasn't 90 minutes old that mediation had failed to bring any progress in NHL labor talks when word surfaced that the NHL commissioner offered Thursday to NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr to have owners and players only in the next bargaining session (whenever that is) -- no league or union brass or staff. ... An NHLPA source confirmed the union was contemplating the offer, which should not be confused with definitely accepting it.

How about a cage match?
Although anything "sans the Butt-plug" works for me.

LOL at the bias inherent in the headline. Sans Bettman is also sans Fehr, but that is conveniently overlooked.
Actually, give Bettman a little credit. It was his idea, and at least he seems willing to try different approaches to unplug the logjam.

You have a better chance at winning the powerball lottery than you do of reading any comments giving the Buttmunch any credit.

He's ****ed this sport for almost 20 years and because he "pulls out" for a few minutes you think he's Man of the Year?

Even if he can be credited with this idea (which I sincerely doubt), in my mind, and in the mind of many others it's too little, too late.

I read that as Gary thinks Fehr is the problem ,and the only way to get the Fuhrer out is to exit himself.

I think by-passing the middle men and going direct to the truly involved might be a way to go. But they will have to take numbers to have their turn to speak. The room will be overflowing.

Wowzers!
You really read quite a bit into that comment. I don't like the little prick any more than the rest of you guys and the only thing he's done over in the last 20 years (that I can remember) that I agree with is the change in the offsides rule. That being said the players have their "collective" heads up their asses and Donald Fehr is just as big a dewwsshebag as Buttman.

I'm sure the owners this this is a great idea. Owner who are CEO's of industries, mostly having MBA's talking to players who many might just have a highschool diploma. Sounds like a great idea for the players. Maybe they should suggest having players sign contracts without agents.
GREAT IDEA. Gary, if you think you are the problem, since you are the one consistent, then just let Daly negotiate with Fehr.

I'm, along with others I'm sure, glad to hear you say this. Sometimes you in your zeal to discredit Fehr, whom nobody else likes either, you sound like a Butt-plug apologist. They're all guilty and they all deserve to be buried in s hit.

I took my position on this matter for several reasons. One was because these threads were getting incredibly boring. This place was an echo chamber and there is no fun in that.
Another was because I'm convinced that the Fehrer was determined not to negotiate, but to bring the owners to their knees, the financial health of the league be damned.
And lastly, I don't don't go for BS union line that the workers are entitled to X amount of the gross revenues. These guys are paid tremendous sums to play a game and their constant agent/union driven quest for more is a veeeeerrrry big reason why a working class family can't afford to take in a game more than once a year.

BTW, for a guy no one else likes, Fehr sure has quite a few defenders in here.
