09:47 AM ET 12.01 | The Dodgers met with Zack Greinke this week, according to a person familiar with the situation who wasn't authorized to comment on the matter. Greinke is the top starting pitcher on the free-agent market and is expected to sign a nine-figure contract, something the Dodgers have the wherewithal to offer him. The Dodgers are also interested in Anibal Sanchez. If the Dodgers fail to sign Greinke or Sanchez, they could turn their attention to the likes of Kyle Lohse or Ryan Dempster. Last week, the Dodgers met with South Korean left-hander Ryu Hyun-jin. The Dodgers bid $25.7 million to win a league-wide auction for the exclusive rights to negotiate with Ryu and have until Dec. 10 to reach a deal with him. The Dodgers could sign both Greinke and Ryu, according to people familiar with the team's thinking.

Why do I think this will not end well for the Dodgers?

Everyone knows that picking up every "name" free agent available without regard to team chemistry is a surefire recipe for a World Series win.

Wait....

This strikes me as normal gamesmanship when negotiating with players. The club talks to as many players as possible, and make sure the players and their agents know they are having conversations with other players. Then the club can say "you aren't our only option you know, there are plenty of other guys we could sign."

Meanwhile, the FA's are saying to the other teams they are chatting with "you aren't our only option you know, we are also talking to the Dodgers and just might sign with them."

It will sort itself out soon enough. Sounds like we will know what is happening with Ryu within a week or so.

I'm in agreement. The Dodgers are getting headlines, but there's a different between getting attention and winning.

dodgers got attention, got the cash availability, and the right rotation,
my feeling here is, the dodgers lack off agressive manager,,,,,,replace the manager and things would look much brighter!!!

...that said, I have to admit that a rotation of Kershaw-Greinke and three decent guys, with some depth, is a pretty good rotation.

the blues have everything to win,,,good lineup, good offense good rotation, but the front seat has been vacant for a long time,,,,,since joe torre left things had been gone backwards,,

When he finally signs at least we will not have to hear about Greinke again for at least five years.
