12:44 PM ET 12.01 | With Jon Gruden turning down the head coaching job for the Tennessee Volunteers football team, a few new star-studded candidates are making their way on to the list of betting favorites for the Vols vacancy. Interestingly enough, when Bovada released the betting favorites for the Vols head coaching gig, Gruden was not listed among the top possible candidates. The favorite to take the job is North Carolina head coach Butch Davis, who is listed as a slight favorite at 3/1. Davis has also been linked to the Arkansas Razorbacks job opening. Davis was fired from North Carolina before the 2011 season due to an impermissible benefits/academic misconduct scandal. After Davis, a very intriguing name has surfaced on the Bovada odds. Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Jim Tressel comes in at a 9/2 favorite from the job. Tressel is coming off of a scandal of his own at Ohio State where he helped cover up a major scandal for impermissible benefits which led to a five-year ban for the Buckeyes. If Tennessee was to hire Tressel, he would have to serve a five-game suspension to start the season and the Vols would be ineligible for a bowl game in his first season.

Really, Tressel and Davis? How about somebody not fired for lying and cheating from their last job?

I can't imagine why the Vols would choose to inherit a show-cause penalty in hiring a coach who has never beaten an SEC team without cheating.

Tressel is a fraud. He hasn't been able to run a clean program as head coach, and suddenly that will change? Doubtful. He's a cheat hiding behind a sweater vest and a pompous fan base.

Better with BP than JT. At least with BP there is no Show cause.

This is a wow headline to me, or a WTF

How many incidents of cheating has Tressel had? If the Pryor thing is it, I might look the other way this time. I like him better than Bobby Petrino. That guy has no credibility to me.

It is called war and that is what happens. Very sad and this is why war is a bad thing...unfortunately, it is also a very necessary thing...

The decision to invade Irag is for another time, but it wasn't a unilateral decision....both the House and Senate voted to agree to invade...so a WHOLE buncha guys need to be drawn and quartered...

I been wondering when Vestee boy's name would surface in the coaching carousel.

If Tressel is really an option TENN is probably just as well served going back to Fulmer.
