05:24 PM ET 12.01 | Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler received a $10,000 fine from the NFL for a taunting penalty he drew during the first quarter of a Week 12 victory against the Vikings, according to Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. On the play, Cutler stiff-armed Vikings cornerback A.J. Jefferson and flipped the ball at him after he ran out of bounds. The play drew a 15-yard penalty and Cutler expressed regret on Monday about the penalty: On Monday, Cutler addressed the flipping incident on WMVP-AM 1000. "I've got to be smarter than that," he said. "If anyone else on offense had done that I would have probably yelled at him like it can't happen here. I can't do it again obviously." Following the penalty, the drive for the Bears stalled and the team settled for a 47-yard field goal from Robbie Gould to take a 10-3 lead.

Some DE or LB is gonna remind Cutler why he can't go around acting like a real football player. They'll cut his season short.

What's next? $5,000 for a false start? When the league goes for intent to injure and hands out a fine, that's one thing. But taunting? C'mon, it cost them 15 yards and made them look stupid. They don't need fines for stupid penalties like this.

Does the NFL give an accounting of the fine money or does it just go into their christmas party fund ?

So it's $10k for hurt feelings in the NFL? The on field penalty makes sense, OK, but a fine? Does the league watch Dr. Phil during half time?

It seems silly to me, too. I wonder if they have fined others for taunting? Is it a new point of emphasis this year?
