10:47 AM ET 12.02 | The Chiefs have announced that today's home game against the Carolina Panthers will be played. The Chiefs fan group is not advocating that the game be canceled; it is calling for a temporary halt to its protests against team management. But the question remains: Should the game go on?

They had a murder, why not a masacur

December 2, 2012  10:49 AM ET

Yes....why glorify this piece of garbage in anyway....I say make believe he never existed....

December 2, 2012  10:49 AM ET

Yes - the game should be played.

December 2, 2012  10:52 AM ET

This game should not be played because KC is unwatcheable.

December 2, 2012  10:57 AM ET

Of course the game should be played, just like any other business would be open after one of its employees died. People have purchased tickets and may have traveled to go to the game. There are employees and vendors who depend on the game for their livelihood. Play the game.

NFL didn't miss a beat when JFK was murdured, why stop for this selfish man who hurt a woman, left a little girl to grow up with who knows, hurt her family, his family and subjected his coaches to see him do that to himself after thanking them. That's my opinion.

I think the idea of a moment of silence for domestic violence victims is a good one. It helps us all to rise above the tragedies and think more positively about the future.

If we stopped everything every time someone passed away, the world would grind to a halt.

Definitely play the game

Yes--a moment to acknowledge what happened, and put it in context, and then carry on with normal life. Fastest way back to normal.

The immediate family may need a lot more than that, and a lot more time, but for the world in general this is the proper course.

would anyone notice if this game didn't happen anyways ?

No it should not be played. He committed suicide in front of members of the team including the head coach and some of the players. People who knew him and friends it will adversly effect the players. Seeing something like that and knowing someone who did something like that will effect you. This happened yesterday, the team and people will not be ready.
Let the Chiefs get their head together it is too soon to play if it happened earlier in the week fine but not this time. Not like cancelling the game will hurt the Cheif's record as they are the WORST team in the NFL. It just effects Fantasy Football. Give a tie to both teams not like North Carolina even can get to the playoffs. Tie will help them in placement for the draft which is all that matters now. NFL should give a refund to the Chiefs fans who paid.
This is extra ordinary like we have never seen. It is DAMNED football game there are human beings grieving and confused right now. Let them deal. Letting the Chiefs play this game gives them a complete competitive disadvantage. The circumstances are extra ordinary. Let a game not happen because it is not needed.

I read a book called "Bloods" that gave the accounts of some of the soldiers of Vietnam. One of the soldiers said that the hardest part of dealing with war is never having time to grieve. A fellow soldier you knew just died possible right in front of you and then you just have to continue with the mission. This helped lead to a lot of psychological issues. For a head coach to see one of his players blow his brains out in front of him and for teammates who possible loved this guy to play like nothing happened "could" do a lot of psychological harm that could lead to out bust and acts of violence later. Refund people there $ but don't put business a head of life.

Gotta disagree with you on this. People have spent much money and rearranged their lives to attend this game, time off work, tickets, travel expenses (airline tickets) etc. Then there are the hotels, bars, shops that will lose big time; about 1/8 of their season income. Stadium employees , cab drivers and a host of others will lose their income, none of which will be reimbursed by the NFL. The players, coaches and support staff will get paid, but no one else. It is a shame that this guy chose to do this, but the rest of the team needs to be professional, and do their jobs.
