Red Sox catchers shaking off trade rumors

10:56 AM ET 12.02 | Ryan Lavarnway recently moved to Denver, where he's working with a new trainer to prepare for his first full season as a major league catcher. Jarrod Saltalamacchia has been in Florida, hanging out with his three daughters. Trade rumors? Who has time for that? Lavarnway and Saltalamacchia made appearances yesterday at the Red Sox' annual "Christmas at Fenway" ticket launch, and both insisted they haven't paid attention to speculation that last month's signing of veteran backup catcher David Ross will lead to one of them being traded before spring training.

Well...you don't generally sign a third catcher if you plan to keep the two you already have.

Lavarnway could always be sent back to AAA. Although it doesn't really matter, your not getting much for either one of them.

there are like 4-5 good catchers in the league-the rest are all mediocre>poor

And the Rangers are in the running for one of the rest.

If I am one of them please trade me away from the mess in Boston.

Of the 3, Saltalamachia probably has the most trade value. Maybe Boston is trying to pry a pitcher loose from a team that needs a C?

I think so. A good defensive catcher that can hit is invaluable. Yadi Molina should probably be the highest paid player in baseball.

Boston's team ERA might go down with a better catcher. I am just not sure about Salty's skills.
