12:33 PM ET 12.02 | The Rangers are interested in trading for Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey. The Mets, who are in a rebuilding mode, are trying to work out a contract extension with Dickey. He is signed for $5 million in 2013 but is a free agent after that. If the Mets can't work out an extension then they would consider trading him. According to sources, the Rangers are definitely interested in talking more with the Mets at the Winter Meetings.

An interesting development--Dickey can help a contender if the Mets don't ask for too much.

Dickey is very smart, and the knuckler doesn't put much strain on the arm. He could pitch 10 more years at a very high level.
I think that a team will be happy with Dickey if they deal for him.

why would the Mets trade him unless they get a prime package back- Dickey is under contract and makes very little- only due 5 million for next year- there is no reason to trade him for anything less than a top tier young outfielder and/or catcher

So the Rangers are wanting to trade for someone they let walk a few years ago?

wiseup: The Mets pitching staff is quite less than stellar. If it wasn't for Dickey's20 wins, the Mets could have challenged Miami for the cellar. If the Mets trade Dickey they would have to have some top pitching prospects and a major league outfielder as well. If you can't get this type of deal then keep Dickey.

He wasn't throwing the knuckler then.
Dickey can give the Rangers the same thing Charlie Hough gave them...mucho innings. With Adams and Uehara both being free agents and Ogando moving into the rotation, their bullpen will need some help.

Rangers have absolutely nobody the Mets need. Dickey is staying put.

Makes sense. It still has to be a little tough to trade for someone you let go previously for nothing.

I agree, unless they get overpaid for him, they should extend his contract for 2 additional years, he can mentor their young pitchers and worse case condition win 15 Games! He has a lot of value to da Mets, I went to 2 Games last year, I had never been to Citi Field before, I went to see Santana pitch one game and Dickey the other! I wouldn't of went if they were not pitching!
