Locked-out Dolan's absence a blow to players

08:23 AM ET 12.03 | James Dolan reportedly wanted in, but he'll take part in another lockout of sorts. The NHL wanted Jeremy Jacobs. The NHLPA wanted [Dolan]. The league and the owners won while the players conceded ground, but the net result is that both sides will meet Tuesday in New York to discuss the 78-day lockout without intervention from league commissioner Gary Bettman or union executive director Donald Fehr. ... For the players, losing Dolan, who the New York Post said was eager to participate after having successfully intervened in the NBA lockout, was a major blow, especially considering that Jacobs will represent the owners. Jacobs has been the single, most destructive influence so far for the owners in his hard-line approach.

A blow to players? More likely it's a tragedy for blow dealers.

This is a meeting with Jacobs, Edwards and Daly and the PA is having S Fehr most likely. So they have had meetings before without Bettman and D Fehr. They are only bringing in a few new owners. This meeting is more of the same. Get all new owners in there. Stop letting Jacobs dictate these negotiations. It is not going well with him.

That was my take too, bud...

Leaving Butthead and Beavis out of this group of participants doesn't change a damn thing.

No, they'll just poke their heads in the door, give each other a filthy lok and leave for another 14 days.

to all of those that said Bettman was just a "voice for the owners". Understand that Dwarfus Horribilius is behind this. Dolan (who I am absolutely no fan of) has been very critical of Bettman etc. and wants thing settled...whatever the reason (his pockets are feeling lighter I'm sure) I cannot believe that I have sided with Dolan a couple of times now...which just goes to illustrate what an incredibly inept and awful commisioner this Dwarf is

Im sure Dolan is one of the few owners that wishes there was no cap.It stops him from tossing his millions around to buy any free agent he wants.

Too bad, what are the players gonna do with all that cocaine they bought Dolan?

One of my favorite ex Rangers Don Murdock could answer that question.

Idiot child. I have responded to your (and a couple of others who couldn't disagree and be civil about) taunts and insults in kind. I've not started any of it and until Spiny starts telling me I'm dumb like you regularly do we will agree to disagree.

so is he (BGM?) saying I have nothing to Fehr but fehr himself?
I for one appreciate healthy debate, so thanks for that. yes, we can disagree without it ending up in the sandbox.....

Absurd. I tried to have a rationale debate with you - but your entire stance is ... "everything is Don Fehr's fault" and "I've followed hockey longer than you" which "makes me right". I pointed out that no, you haven't followed hockey longer than I have - and while I give Fehr some of the blame - anyone who thinks Bettman isn't the root problem doesn't follow hockey - or hasn't since 1994. Which is true. He's been the constant in three work stoppages that he's controlled. So you keep talking nonsense, putting people down when they don't agree with you - and having a name that is insulting and threatening. But like I said, you don't know how to debate, the facts do not support you - and you resort to name calling and then whine about it. How sad. For you. Oh well - at least you put up photos of cars that aren't yours on your wall to make yourself look cool. So there's that...
