ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit blasts NIU's BCS bid

03:37 PM ET 12.03 | For years, analysts and fans alike have been railing on the BCS system for not allowing in teams that aren't from major conferences. Boise State was long the poster child of the BCS system's prejudice towards the Alabamas, Floridas and Ohio States of the college football world, and their mathematical and systematical tight rope allowed in no outsiders. Boise State eventually got in, but it was clear that they'd be the only ones. That's until Northern Illinois got through the tightest of loop holes in the BCS system and weaseled their way into a BCS bowl game. The Huskies won the MAC title on Saturday and needed to finish at No. 16 in the BCS or higher to somehow secure a BCS bid over other probably more deserving major conference schools ahead of them. But this comes with the territory and is the nature of the game; when Boise State was constantly getting screwed in favor of less deserving, the same outcry was had. But that's where it gets annoyingly hypocritical, and ESPN talking head Kirk Herbstreit spearheaded said hypocrisy by losing his junk over NIU getting into a BCS Bowl over the like of Clemson, Georgia and Oklahoma.

He lost his junk? Did he ever have any?

i agreed 100% with you kirk. nothing against niu but if great boise teams were left out....you definatly should be left out this season.

Maybe I'd listen to him if he also mentioned how equally awful the Wisconsin and Louisville invites are.

+2, they're crap also.

Agree but the system is what it is. [NIU lost to Iowa?]

Thank the Big 10 for this disaster and their terrible non-conference performance prior to the start of the conference schedule.

December 3, 2012  04:03 PM ET

but -- but -- but NIU travels well....

ROFLMAO! Couldn't do that with a straight face, sorry fellas.

If that dang Hot Clicks pic of Ana Barros doesn't change out to something else soon, I'm not gonna get ANYTHING done this afternoon. ------------->>

He blasted the BCS for the rules and the selection, not NIU for making the game under the rules. I have no problem with what he says.

Anyone that thinks leaving LUS, Okie & Georgia out of the BCS is right is just plain crazy

How right you are. The entire country would love to see 4 SEC teams in the BCS bowl games.

I don't understand why he was so annoyed this year. As you said on the other thread, every year there 2-3 very deserving teams left out because of the rules.

Why **** now, when KState, Arky, UGa, Texas, TTech ad infinitum have been screwed since the system came on board.

as they should by ranking. would it be a problem if it were four pac12 teams? if people are tired of sec this and that then someone ****, quit crying, and win the f**king game when it's played.
georgia is a college grad that can't find a job, niu is a g.e.d (good enough dammit) prospect. which would you pick?

Actually the Wisconsin invite has nothing to do with the BCS!!! It's a long time contract between the Big 10 and the 12 PAC!!!!

actually its almost all Wisky's fault. If they would have been ranked, then this never would have happened.

Instead a number 30 team is playing in the Rose Bowl.

Well, what can you or I do about it?? It's been that way for years. Actually as an oldtimer, I like it that way, but it's only my opinion, as I don't want teams from the South, Southwest or the East coast playing in the Rose Bowl. To me it has quite a bit of history and I really like the 12 PAC teams playing in that game. It doesn't always work that way, but damn it seems strange to see a team like Texas or Georgia playing in the Rose Bowl game!!!
