A-Rod expected to be out until July after hip surgery

03:56 PM ET 12.03 | Yankees fans everywhere got sick and tired of Alex Rodriguez rather quickly this offseason, with his benching in Game 5 of the ALDS being cheered and applauded by mostly everyone. That trend of A-Rod spending time on the bench will continue for the Yankees but it's also going to be a paid leave as the third baseman is expected to miss 4-6 months after having hip surgery. A-Rod hasn't had the surgery yet, as it's scheduled for January, but the longer he waits the more time will be drained from his 2013 campaign. If he were to have the surgery as scheduled, his return date is late-May at best, early-July at the wist but most cautious. But for those Yankees fans that like to make excuses, the surgery being done to A-Rod is to correct a problem that doctors believe hampered him down the stretch of New York's season.

Well, maybe that explains his total lack of production in the second half of the year. Or maybe this is a ruse and he's hoping that Yankee fans will forget how he hasn't earned his pay in three seasons - and he can't take the booing. Either way - the Yankees aren't going anywhere this year - as this will be the first year in a LONG time that both the Yankees and Sox miss the playoffs. Yikes.

95 wins needs no excuses. Arod is declining, overpaid. That can't be excused.
