04:19 PM ET 12.03 | Despite being a hot coaching candidate around the college football world, James Franklin will be returning to Nashville, Tenn. The university announced today that they have agreed to a contract extension with Franklin. Under Franklin's direction, Vanderbilt had their first consecutive six-win seasons since 1950-51 and they reached a bowl game in back-to-back years for the first time in school history. It is safe to say Franklin has made his impact on the program. "We have a commitment to excellence and we have a commitment to James Franklin as our head coach," Vanderbilt Vice Chancellor and Athletics Director David Williams said. "He has done a tremendous job and we want to be sure that he has all the tools he needs to continue moving our football program forward. We are committed to having first-class facilities and we both look forward to a bright future for Commodore football."

Thought Franklin would be leaving Vandy for a school giving him a chance to show what he could do with more talent and facilities. Good for him for staying.

Hopefully by staying, he will get a lot of top tier talent to Music City.....what a fresh change....Vandy will no longer be looked at as a guaranteed win on the opponents schedule...cannot beat the education the prospects will receive....do wish we had gotten a better bowl game, but it is what it is.....GO DORES............

Surprised....$3 mill is a big number to pay him, but IMO he could have gotten more on the open market.

Congrats to Vandy...outkicked your coverage

Now if Vandy could lower their academic standards for athletes so they can compete better?

that will never happen......

"You're wanting your son to accept offers from Stanford or Duke. I'm here to tell you he'll gain just as valuable a degree from Vanderbilt, and Nashville is a city where he can make the right kind of connections to propel his future after graduation."

The Gator selected Miss. State from among the available SEC schools because they have a fan base proven to travel, even to Jax.

Vandy gets the Music City because they are a home-town feel good story. Alumni may return to Nashville for the Bowl game plus a stroll down memory lane, and the NCSU fans will travel to the burg for the game. A few grumbles may be heard from hoteliers and merchants, but in these times, they should be happy for what does come from the event in town.

Vandy will have a strong showing at Music City Bowl........going to be fun...maybe another year with winning record will get them to the next level......nice to not be a cellar dweller in the east...

I love Nash Vegas. I'd live there now, if work and the wife would let me (She loves Nashburg, too, but feels it's too far from the grand babies.).
