05:42 AM ET 12.04 | According to major league sources, the Red Sox are among 'four or five' teams interested in free agent Josh Hamilton, but only on a short-term contract. One source suggests teams are waiting to see if there is anybody willing to go as many as four years on the outfielder. Is has been rumored that the 31-year-old Hamilton is seeking as much as a seven-year deal. Earlier Monday, an industry source told WEEI.com that free agent first baseman/outfielder Nick Swisher, who also has drawn interest from the Red Sox, might wait to make a decision until after Hamilton signs.

QUOTE(#1):

I'm not real ecxited about either one of these guys signing with the Bosox.

I'm even less excited at the thought of watching Daniel Nava or Ryan Kalish play every day.

Ah...the intrigue.

In the old days, Hamilton is a guy George would have gone after. Too bad we're pinching pennies now or counting beans or however you want to phrase it.

He'll be an Indian by the end of Hanukkah.

Yeah, the back end of his contract is killing us.

QUOTE(#5):

Nava needs to go or just be a sub, Kalish still has some prospect in him and is not 100% suspect.Hamilton is going to be way expensive, risky, and probably a bad fit for the Boston fans and media, and Swisher is a stopgap kind of guy in a team with way too many gaps.

Two questions for you MLB experts:
Does MLB allow for player contracts with an out for substance abuse, so that if Hamilton screws up again his contract is voided?
Also, for you Yankee fans, are the rumors that Swisher was not a good guy in the clubhouse, petulant and divisive, a whiner, true or not?

He was never worth what the Yankees paid him, from Day One. One of the worst contract signings in MLB alltime.
Makes the Carl Crawford signing look good.

The Rangers and Hamilton are reportedly homing in on a deal in the 4 yr range. We'll soon see.

December 4, 2012  07:05 PM ET

Ill take him at 4 .. anything longer than that and some other team can pay him his millions.

I would really like to see the Mariners get him.
