01:09 PM ET 12.04 | Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is expected to start Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac has learned. Roethlisberger, who has missed the past three weeks with shoulder and chest injuries, will be on the practice field this week, said head coach Mike Tomlin at his weekly press conference, but he said the QB will need to prove he's healthy enough to start.

Shouldn't though unless they melt down. Let him have another week off

Chargers? It oughta be a gentle way to ease Ben back into football.

I tend to agree. More important to have Ben ready close to play-offs. Batch has done OK recently. Won a big one last week.

I say give him two weeks but that's just me.
Comes with being a schedule watcher.

Sure that has nothing to do with the Cowboys being that second game in Ben's vacation.

This should have nothing to do with what Ben thinks. Has he been "medically cleared to play?" That is the only important question here. Don't want to watch this guy's aorta explode on television.

Totally agree.

Yeah that'd take NFL violence to a whole level I'd agree is best avoided. I expect the doctors to do their job. If they don't clear him, Tomlin won't have any say in it anyway.

Medical staff has already claimed there is no further risk of damage to the aorta.
This is the 3rd year in a row Ben is "banged up" in December. He is always this way because of the way he plays. If he can throw and manage the pain, he has to play. If he doesn't, he would just have some other body part hurt next. It's time to put it all out there whether it's Baltimore & New England or even San Diego & Tennessee. If they clear him to go on Sunday - get him out there.

You have to qualify for the playoffs to play in them. Steelers don't have that luxury, they need him to win.

It's not like the Steelers have a 2-3 game cushion. They need to win on Sunday, and Ben give them the best opportunity to do that.
