02:13 PM ET 12.04 | Todd Heap has been released by the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Heap was inactive in all but two games for the Cardinals this season. He had eight receptions for 94 yards over the course of Weeks 1 and 2. Heap was initially sidelined due to knee concerns, but may have been a healthy scratch in recent weeks. Rob Housler has taken ownership of the Cardinals' starting tight end spot, with 36 receptions for 368 yards this season.

He gets hurt--the backup gets a chance--plays better for less money--he gets released. This is either "life in the NFL" or a country song.
