Guz Malzahn hired at Auburn to replace Gene Chizik

05:29 PM ET 12.04 | Malzahn wasn't a hot commodity among the names being tossed around, but he's not an awful choice. He's familiar with the school as he served on Gene Chizik's staff from 2009-2011, winning a National Championship with the team in 2010. However, Arkansas is expected to introduce Bret Bielema tomorrow and Auburn could try to crash that party with their own conveniently timed introduction. For Tigers fans, it's not the flashiest of choices, but recent history has shown (in both the college and pro ranks) that the glitziest name isn't always the best. If anything else, Malzahn's crowning achievement was coaching Cam Newton's incredible season in 2010 and after the dismal finish to the Chizik era, anything that resembles or reminds fans of a winner is a step in the right direction.

LOL. His offense scored no points on Alabama in 2011. They scored 2 TDs on a fumble recovery in Alabama's EZ and a KO return.
