Yankees closing in on deal with A.J. Pierzynski

05:40 PM ET 12.04 | Speculation began that Pierzynksi could be on the Yankee radar once Russell Martin was signed away by the Pittsburgh Pirates. While he offers little in the way of controlling the running game, Pierzynski has a reputation as a good receiver and handles a pitching staff well. A left handed hitter with power, Pierzynski seems a natural fit for Yankee Stadium. Pierzynski will be 36 later this month, but is coming off a career year with the White Sox in 2012. In 135 games, Pierzynski belted 27 home runs and had 77 RBI. His .827 OPS was also a career-best. The Yankees aren't the only big market club looking for help behind the plate and Texas may be interested in Pierzynski as well. The Yankees would be wise to strike quickly if they'd like to finish a deal with the former all-star as the Rangers seem to be focused on other areas at the present time.

Perfect for the Jays! They could have 4-5 40 steal players in the lineups on any given night. They will feast on AJ!

Who cares about his age? It wil be a 1 year contract..Romine will cath in 2014.

None of this matters. The Yanks will make the playoffs and the middle of the line up will leave a Guatamalan village on base.

If Romine is so close to ready....why not start him in 2013?

this yankees prospect romine has been getting ready getting ready but still can't take over in the big team, wonder what's been missing???

Even by FN standards, this is ridiculous. If you read the full article, it indicates that the Yankees spoke to AJ's agent. That is it. To classify the conversation as "closing in on a deal" is completely disingenuous.
