Can Bret Bielema make his Big 10 style work in the SEC?

04:56 AM ET 12.05 | The Razorbacks are looking to move away from the embarrassing end to the Bobby Petrino era that saw the school become the subject of scandalous tabloid headlines after the coach crashed his bike with his mistress - a woman who was not only an employee of the university but much younger than the senior coach. Hiring Bielema starts to process of moving Arkansas away from that, and hopefully towards winning ways once again. The road isn't easy, but Arkansas already surprised everyone by stealing a really good coach away from a University he was seemingly happy at so the next order of business is to do something with it. That's the question on the minds of Razorback fans everywhere, as while Bielema left Wisconsin after his drop-the-mic 70 point performance on conference foe Nebraska, that kind of muscle flexing rarely works in the defensive-minded SEC.

FN takes an article from Fansided, adds some of their own opinion (the last sentence above) and posts it for comment.

Neither the FanSided article or the Pat Forde article talked about "...that kind of muscle flexing rarely works in the defensive-minded SEC."

Real journalism is dead. Embellishing/adding to someone else's work is not right. Either quote them word for word or create your own article.

Why not. Couldn't you say that BAMA plays a B1G style of football.

No. 'Bama plays NFC style football. Just ask Spurrier.

I am going to be in the minority of ARKY fans. I am actually encouraged by the hire because I wanted a coach that has a defensive back ground and Bielema fits that profile. Now we will see how this will help or hurt recruiting. We'll see.

I guess if you compare Saban success in the BIG and extrapolate it to Bret you will see him winning a NC in 1-2 years.

Maybe Urban can give him recruiting pointers!

He will need some strong assistant coaches

Horrible hire in my opinion for two reasons, sorry my Hog fan friends!
A) You are bringing in a guy to play a style similar to the best teams in your conference and telling him, Hey, go beat these guys doing what they do, but they get better players!
B) They needed someone who knows and can recruit players in TX... end of story....

Heck, a ton of the threads are from Fansided, does SI own them or something?

BB always played in the grey zones of the rules, both written and unwritten.....I am not disappointed he left the B1G.

Looks like Pitt will be looking for its 6th coach in 4 years!

I think the "articles" on Fansided are short enough they can read them in under an hour....and don't need a lot to fit in the space above. Actual newspaper articles are longer, and takes too long to read, comprehend, and parse into something that fits in the space.

Your second point is the one that concerns me the most. I think most Hog fans will agree with you about being a horrible hire. I have just become sick and tired watching these guys not making tackles. I am glad to see we have a coach who knows that you have to play on both sides of the ball. Bring on 2013.

Urban was really getting under his skin. Too bad he is a wussy! Oh well, there is always the Joke from the easy one up north, known as Ann Arbor.

GO BUCKS!!!

By Big 10 style, does the author mean playing .500 ball against over-rated opponents, and always coming up short in bowl games? If so, no, it won't work. It only works in the Big 10.

QUOTE(#18):

Bielema has some serious people issues in retaining coaches and working well with his superiors. Also Brett is not the smartest sideline decision maker when it comes to game time decisions. Brett will not win big at Arkansas.

He can't win B1G @ Arky, but he could win the sec.
