Oakland Raiders in talks with Jon Gruden

05:41 AM ET 12.05 | It's been over ten years since we've seen the likes of Jon Gruden in the iconic silver and black, but we may not have to wait much longer. Like George Lucas went back to the Star Wars well some ten years after Return of the Jedi, the Oakland Raiders are plucking on our nostalgia stings and are reportedly in talks to bring back Chucky to the Bay Area. Before we get all excited we have to remember who we are dealing with. After all the years of that scowl and the gruesome profanity, it turns out Jon Gruden is just as much of a coaching diva as the next guy. From his dangling of the University of Tennessee late last month to his constant plea that he's fully committed to his ESPN gig, we really don't know what to believe when it comes to Gruden. For Raiders fans - or fans of whatever team he is hired by - hopefully the wisdom and the decision comes hand in hand with the scowl we've all come to love.

And leave espn? oh dear, who would fill in?

Andy Reid... he could probably use a year or two away from coaching.

A chair.

East Bay Grease Boys is not the gig he's looking for. Chucky wants Big D.

If Gruden actually goes back to collecting mediocre QBs instead of just riding their jocks on his bus, I'd like to see Steve Young get a shot.

Never thought about Young.... Would be a good move, IMO.

Its about time!!!!! Hopefully this happens soon, so he can start cleaning house.

That would be a nice move considering his record and reputation there. Love his "give it all you got or move on" style. He was a GREAT fit. That's what that team needs. A Leader. Did I mention his love for those Raider fans? Mr. Gruden, knowing what it takes to build a contender everyone knows you are just the man for the job.

Please, please, please!!! Chucky just fits Raider Nation

As a long-suffering Raider fan, I would love to see Gruden back! He's the only guy to do anything with the team in nearly 20 years. And he did it under Al's watch...which is all the more impressive.

Let's see... Work one night a week with virtually no individual responsibility or work 24/7/365 with constant criticism and often little thanks, and everything riding on your production... That's a tough one for me.

I give this a snowball's chance in H-E-double-hockey-stick of happening... Gruden was run out of LA by the late demented Al Davis... You want us to believe that Chucky doesn't harbor some strong hatred for that team? As Deion Sanders would say - "C'mon man!" Gruden has enough traction surrounding his name to land one of the *better* head coaching positions if he so chooses - why on earth would he even consider the perennially dysfunctional Raiders???

so wait... i was hearing yesterday morning that Mark Davis was in talks with Gruden about possibly lighting the torch before thursdays game... and now we are talking to him about being our head coach? sounds to me like a simple phone call is getting blown way out of proportion.
