Is Dwight Howard going to leave L.A. in free agency?

06:08 AM ET 12.05 | Dwight Howard missed some crucial free throws down the stretch of the Lakers two point loss to Houston, and proceeded to pass the blame afterwords. But the incident raises an even bigger question for the Lakers: if the losing continues will Howard, who is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, leave for the highest bidder? The whole reason Howard came to L.A. was that he didn't have a choice of where he could freely sign. I mean, we all know he forced the deal, but it's not like he was able to name his price. Should the Lakers not secure a title this season, or produce a promising future, there is no reason to believe someone as shady as Howard would commit long term. No one wants to believe that we'll have to endure Dwight Drama all over again, especially since it was so messy and annoying when he wasn't a free agent. And while we may be reading into this a lot, it's not the incident that needs to be dissected, it's the situation and if Howard's proven anything during his career it's that he doesn't like bad situations.

I don't think he will leave as long as LA can get their sht together by the post season and have a good run. Money talks and he will get plenty in LA as well as the attention.

Playoffs? Playoffs?
This team will have some serious work to do. Then if they somehow end up as a 5 seed, they don't strike me as a team that could make a run through the grizzlies, then OKC, then the Heat without home court advantage. Their season is starting to get away from them.

The Lakers remind me of the 2011 Eagles "Dream Team". Lots of talent but short on chemistry. One and done in the playoffs and then it's outta there for Howard.

I could see this......The Celtics clear some cap room via trading/unloading Pierce, in addition to this, get rid of KG via trade as well by trade deadline in order to make a run at Howard. This would be very unpopular but worth a shot. You would then have Howard, Rondo, Bradley (all defensive stalwarts) to anchor the C's for years. Pierce will get his number retired and fame in Boston undoubtedly.
On the other hand Howard could certainly entertain home (Atlanta) because he's certainly has made a mess everywhere else and home for him would be well received undoubtedly by the Hawks faithful.
Make no mistake about this, if Dumbtoni and the Lakers don't make the conference finals and make a hard push for a title, Howard is ghost! Bank on it.

Chicago could also be a destination for Howard as well, you'd have Tibs, Gibson, & Rose to anchor the defense for years as well, in addition to a already fabulous defensive stalwart in Noah.....spells championship......Boozer is amnestyed!
