End of an era in Chicago

08:00 AM ET 12.05 | A Brian Urlacher injury has again become a significant issue in Chicago, this one with long-lasting implications. The dark cloud settling over this Bears season grew even more ominous Tuesday with news that [Urlacher] likely will miss three of the team's final four games with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. It's possible Urlacher could miss the rest of the season with an eye toward a return for the playoffs. ... This injury to this player feels different. So different that you can't help but wonder if this is the end of an era -- if it is the end of Urlacher with the Bears. And if the team does miss the playoffs, where does that leave coach Lovie Smith? The suspicion is that Smith's future isn't tied to Urlacher's, but that Urlacher's future certainly is tied to Smith's.

Da Bears play the Vikes, the Packers, the Cardinals and the Lions. They should go 3-1. I think 2-2 gets them the wild card. If the Packers stumble, the Bears still have a decent shot at the division.

I see the Bears going 2-2 at best. People seem to conveniently overlook the fact that the Bears have struggled big time against other playoff contending teams this year.

Age is the nemesis of the Bears this year. Their strength is their D and you can see them slowing down as the season wears on. Without 2-3 turnovers a game, they have a tough time competing with the better teams. It could be a long December in Chicago.

2-2 seems pretty realistic.
The same could be said about the rest of the teams in the NFC North, too.

The way their defense was shredded the final two times they took the field does not bode well for them

Won't matter much because .... while the Bears have feasted on the bottom feeders, they haven't done much against the above .500 teams. It'll be one and out ... IF they do get in. That awful O line will brake Bears fans hearts once again ... and get Cutler injured before it's over..

I think he strained it on that play where he ran down Golden Tate from behind to save a touchdown. Good effort, but as a player ages stuff gets more fragile.

Yeah, I don't see them going deep, but I think they'll be in the playoffs. As division winners, they'll play a wild card team, probably Green Bay or Seattle. As a wild card, they'll play either Green Bay or the NFC North winner.
But, suppose they get past the first week? Will Atlanta do their traditional one-and-done fade? Will the good 49ers be there, or the bums who can't beat the Rams? And, if the NFC Championship game is the Bears against the Packers or Redskins, I wouldn't bet much either way on who would win.
Long shot, year. But this is a really weird year.
