Luck gaining MVP momentum

08:03 AM ET 12.05 | Hey, if a freshman can win the Heisman, as many are predicting will happen this year, why not a freshman NFL MVP? I am one of the 50 voters for The Associated Press' NFL awards. It is a responsibility that I take a lot of pride in -- and one I take very seriously. I start taking notes and compiling names for the various awards in late October. I watch the games. I talk to people. I don't want to be reactionary. I always come to my own conclusions. With one quarter left in this season, Indianapolis Colts rookie Andrew Luck is the leading candidate for the 2012 NFL MVP Award. ... If Luck slips on the proverbial banana peel down the stretch, we can have a different conversation. But right now, I feel strongly. The functioning word is "valuable."

They make this call at the end of the regular season, right?

I'd give it to Peyton Manning at this point, but if the Redskins take the NFC East then RG-III deserves it. I think a guy who carries a low-talent team to the playoffs deserves it most.

Rookie of the Year and MVP.

Where's the Sanchez thread?

It's dirty. They threw it in the wash.

HAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!!

How can you tell how much improved a team is when they intentionally tanked last season to get Luck? They started winning the moment they locked up the number 1 pick in the draft.

I've got to admit that Luck has done a pretty good job replacing Peyton Manning. That in itself deserves some recognition.

The did win two of their last three and one was against Houston. They still weren't an 8-8 team.

Luck probably deserves it for beating Detriot the way they did last week. I'll give him that.

Or we could give it to Greg McElroy for "meritorious service" in finally replacing Mark Sanchez.

Wasn't Schaub injured for that game? The Texans went nowhere without him. I guess that makes him another candidate, huh?

I think that McElroy will be the #2 qb for the game

Should be, but would be a nice gesture to Jax fans if Tebow was active for the game.
