Yankees put Granderson on the block

08:09 AM ET 12.05 | The Grandy man can ... be considered as a trade option. According to a source, the Yankees have been quietly shopping Curtis Granderson since the beginning of November, though no deal is imminent. Granderson is in the final year of his contract after the Yankees exercised a $15 million option in late-October. Trading the center fielder would open some payroll flexibility for the Yankees, who must now add a third baseman in addition to a right fielder and catcher. "We could always think about doing stuff on guys we have under our control," Brian Cashman said. "It's not something I would talk about publicly." Granderson leads the majors with 84 home runs over the past two seasons, but his other numbers plummeted from 2011 to 2012.

I think the short right field porch at Yankee stadium has gotten into Granderson's head. He looks like he's trying to hit a HR with every swing of the bat.

If not this year, then next year they let him walk. I just do not see him getting a long term big money deal when they have Cano to deal with next year. Especially when they believe two of their top prospects are OF and CF capable.

Same here. There's not many teams that he's a fit for. Texas maybe, if they don't resign Hammytoons. But who else?

Saw an interesting article yesterday, that said that most of , if not all of Arod's contract is insured. If that is the case, maybe they can slip the surgeon a couple of extra bucks to make sure he never plays again.

I am OK with that. Heck for $20 I will do the surgery on him. So he knows ahead of time: No anesthetics.

How so? The guy strike's out 160 times a year and that is being generous (almost 200 last year). He doesn't hit many extra base hits 18 last year and usually doesn't, doesn't hit for average ever, average CF and his obs is a joke. Sure he can hit the long ball and knock in RBI's, but i would much rather have 20-25 guys a head of Granderson who do it all. Granderson gets to much credit and always has.

I think it would be smart for us to trade him this year. Get maybe a couple of younger players if possible instead of waiting him to hit free agency in a year and getting a single first round pick as compensation. Grandy could be a great addition if he can reduce those strikeouts.
You put him in another lineup in another home stadium and he could be very productive. He's a good guy too and that always helps.

I wonder how much Cashman regrets the deal with the Tigers now. Austin Jackson put up some pretty big numbers least year and looks to do it for many years. Granderson looks done.

i'm confused. they picked up the option and now they want to trade him? his trade value will be effected by the size of his salary. i can't help wonder if this is true. cashman seems a bit more on top of things that this.

one bad season would lead to another poor season, the yankees are trying to shave the payroll, and can't sign or give granderson a long term contract plus the outfielder has been in decline in the last two seasons,,
