08:10 AM ET 12.05 | Leave it to the Cubs. Spring training is still more than two months away, but the Cubs are already in the midst of a closer controversy. Carlos Marmol's agent, Paul Kinzer, said he expected to talk to President Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer this week about his client, who apparently feels unwanted because of the unannounced signing of Japanese reliever Kyuji Fujikawa. "Just to clarify, Marmol is going to be our closer," Hoyer said Tuesday. ... That's if Marmol is still on the team, which remains to be seen. Marmol already was told he was traded once this winter, only for the deal with the Angels to fall through. Marmol originally told the Cubs he wouldn't waive his no-trade rights to go to the Angels.

It's unlikely he'll still be with the team. They will find a way to dump him. The Cubs are dying to cleanse themselves of one of their last few big contracts, especially with all of the bridges that Marmol has burned

angels have been tryng to stabilize their closer spot for years, its madson deal a done trick?? i wouldn't believe that madson would do great job as a closer, lets not forget that he didn't pitch at all last year due to a injury shoulder, why would the halos think or believe they had fixed their closer spot??

the rangers have better possibility in joakim soria than the angels with madson in their closer spot though,,, but if the halos get this pitcher to give them high numbers it would be a PLUS,,,

Marmol is too wild to be a good closer.

wiseup: Marmol closing was always an adventure. Marmol would throw strikes for 2or 3 outings, and then all of a sudden for 3or4 outings he would not be able to find the strike zone. Hitters would take knowing he would not be able to throw 3 strikes before he threw ball 4. Cubs find a reliable closer, put Marmol in pen as a setup man. At that point maybe he would change his mind about no trade clause

wiseup:Looks like Epstein is doing an ivy double check for some one who can pitch or hit with consistency. Keep looking
